The Verge rates Microsoft’s Surface Laptop as the best on the market now.  With its power, portability, and battery life better than others in the market is it the best available in 2017.  The keyboard and trackpad are fantastic.  The touchscreen has a high resolution, and it is available in four colors.  Intel’s latest processors are used and have up to 16GB of RAM and storage of 1TB.

It isn’t a cheap option, costing most people about $US1299. One issue is that it runs with Windows 10S, and it only permits apps from the Windows Store to be installed.  There is an upgrade available, the Windows 10 Pro.  At present, it is free but it may cost more in the future.  It will allow the user to purchase apps from other stores.

If you prefer Apple products then the Apple MacBook Pro might be for you.  If you are a student studying design this is probably one of the best laptops available.  Although expensive there are some options, making it somewhat cheaper, depending on which features you need.  The design is compact and it is light.  It has one of the largest trackpads on the market.

The 13-inch model ($US1299) might not have the Touch Bar, but unless you need this feature for design study or creating, it is probably not necessary.  If the Touch Bar and other features are included the cost rises dramatically to $US2296, which is probably beyond most college students.  The more expensive model does offer more USB ports which can be an advantage.

This is probably one of the best laptops for the average college student.  Although it is half the price ($US580) it has impressive specifications and is ideal for the campus.  This laptop can also manage graphic design programs, which makes it ideal if that is your area of study.  It can also handle some software that is needed for some courses better than most other budget laptops around.

The cheapest laptop with Full HD resolution, and will allow you to run videos, but it won’t play the most recent games.  It is a good option for students.

Acer Chromebook R11 Convertible, 11.6 inches HD Touch Screen

This laptop will be able to manage homework, and those late nights when you are watching movies.  Once the assignments are completed, you can flip it and watch something more relaxing.

Apple MacBook Air 13.3 inch Laptop

For those who are moving about from the dormitory to the classroom, and the library, this is one of the most portable around, as well as being very portable.  Just what a college student needs.
