Apache

Apache, Navajo, Diné,
I was in the Rez
on my way to heaven.

I found my brothers
in Santa Ana and in the desert.

Later, I went up to the white mountain
where you were waiting for me
with a vessel of fresh water.

I moistened my lips
in the freshness of your smile.

I slept in your embrace;
I woke up in the new sun
with the morning light of your love
signaling the new day.

Apache, Navajo, Diné,
I was in the Rez
on my way to heaven.

And I gave you a rug
weaved in Albuquerque.

P.S.: "The Rez" = Short for Reservation. Not political correct.
