VLC Media Player App – Free with Windows 8.1/10

VLC Media Player App

VLC has long been one of the Internet’s favourite choices when it comes to media players. Following a large multi-platform update of the desktop player last year, the VLC Media Player app is now available for free in the Windows Store, for Windows 8.1 and 10.

The app supports a huge range of network streams and media files (including FLAC, MKV, MOV, TS and Ogg videos), with the option for subtitles, speed control, and multi-track sound. All this is stored in your own library, complete with automatic meta-data updates.

Long-time VLC users will also notice a new interface in the latest version (1.6), as well as a large number of fixes.

Ultimately, your choice of media player comes down to your own preferences, but users on the Windows Store have been generally positive about the addition of VLC for free, with an average rating of 3.6 out of 5.

The Windows Store link for the app is here or you can download via Store app.
