Parental Lockdown: Enabling Kid Controls on your iPhone

Having kids can be great. Having an iPhone can be great. Together though? Not always a great combination.

Since the release of the iPhone 3.0, parents have been able to limit the information and apps that can be viewed. In practice, this means you could stop your phone from playing moves with a rating of 15+ or 18+. It also has security features in preventing unauthorized purchases from the Store.

To use Parental Controls, open up the Settings app and then select ‘General’. Under ‘Restrictions’, choose ‘Enable Restrictions’. If you haven’t turned this on before, you’ll be asked to select and confirm a four-digit password.

Once you’re in, adjust the settings in the control panel to select which applications should be restricted and what content rating should be able to be accessed, for movies, music and apps.
