Samsung Galaxy S8 vs S8 Plus – Review S8 vs S8+ | TheStories

Samsung Galaxy S8 vs S8 Plus

Standard Samsung Galaxy S8 has a curved screen, making the differences between the S8 and the S8 Plus not so obvious as the differences between the Galaxy S7 and the S7n Edge.

S8 vs S8 Plus – The Screen

Both the Samsung Galaxy S8 and the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus have a curved display.  This is why they have removed ‘Edge’ from the name.  Both use the AMOLED technology and the aspect ratio of 18.5:9 and the resolution of 1,440 x 2,960 is the same on both models.  It is the size that makes the difference.  The S8 has a display of 5.8inches, but the S8 Plus has 6.2 inches.  The screen on the S8 Plus has fewer pixels per inch, which makes it less sharp, but this is hardly noticeable.

S8 vs S8 Plus – Design

The design of both is almost exactly the same. There is a glass back, a metal frame, and there are tiny bezels both below and above the screen. The physical home button has gone, and the scanner for fingerprints is at the back, next to the camera.  Both models have an IP68 for water and dust resistance.

As with the screen, the differences are related to the size.  The S8 is 148.9x68x1mm, and the S8 Plus is 159.5x73x4mm.  This results in the S8 Plus being longer and a little bit wider.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus resembles a phablet size, and the Samsung Galaxy S8 is in a large size, but they are not as big as you could expect.

The elimination of the bezels has made the S8 smaller than the Galaxy Note 7, and the S8 Plus is almost the same size as the iPhone 7 Plus.  The Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus is naturally heavier than the Samsung Galaxy S8, along with being larger.

S8 vs S8 Plus – OS; Power

Although there are no differences between the devices, different versions will be released in different regions.  They both have 4GB of RAM.  In the US the phones will use Snapdragon 835, and in the rest of the world will be Exynos 8895, created by Samsung.  Exynos has a reputation for being better than Qualcomm, but it won’t matter because you are getting a cutting edge octa-core chipset.  Both models run Android Nougat and are overlaid with TouchWiz UI from Samsung.

S8 vs S8 Plus – The Camera

Both models have the same cameras, and they are not much different to those found on the S7 and S7 Edge.  They both have a 12 MP single lens snapper.  The front-facing camera has been upgraded on both models and is MP.  Megapixels aren’t everything, but the results with the cameras are impressive.

S8 vs S8 Plus – Battery

Samsung S8 vs S8 Plus - BatteryThis is the biggest difference between the two models.  Samsung has used the additional space in the S8 Plus to add a 3,500m Ah battery, which is greater than the 3,000m Ah in the standard Samsung Galaxy S8.  Neither of these is huge, particularly if you think about the size of the device.  The battery in the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus is only slightly smaller than that in the Galaxy S7 Edge.  One of the reasons for this was to avoid the disaster of the Note 7.

Both phones were able to go for a day and a half when the battery saving function was used.  Both models support fast charging using a USB type-C port.

There are very few marked differences between the Samsung Galaxy S8 and the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus.  Both models are now curved, and both are phablet-sized.  The S8 Plus is bigger and with its larger battery, may have a longer life.  There is little difference, and if you prefer the phablet-size, you may go with the S8 Plus, but the S8 is a good alternative as it is also a large device.
