What is MS Excel Spreadsheets
Microsoft Excel is a part of the Microsoft Office Suite of Programmes. Basically it is a spreadsheet, which keeps data in a template of rows and columns.
What can you do with spreadsheet?
There are many things you can do when using spreadsheet–
- you can perform calculations
- make small databases
- create accounts of a small company
- make a financial report
- make a result card of all the students of a school
- keep record of attendance of an organization
- created graphs
- create charts and

Different parts of a spreadsheet
Let’s start with a simple spreadsheet. When you first open Microsoft Excel, this is what you will see:
As we can see some parts are looking very similar to other Microsoft programmes; for example the Menu Bar and the Tool Bar.
There is a formula bar which is designed specifically for Excel and it is here that you can select mathematical formulas you may need.
There are a plethora of options and it is worth spending some time, exploring these, or watching a video on the many ways you can use Excel.
The main part is called the worksheet – it consists of a grid of rows and columns – where they intersect, we have a cell. Each cell can be named, as in a grid position. Check cell number A1 – in the top left hand corner. There are essential for performing mathematical tasks.
At the bottom of the page there are 3 tabs – Sheet 1, Sheet 2, Sheet 3 – each worksheet contains these, and each can be labelled as you wish.
How to learn spreadsheet
